Lydford is worth lingering over - its two castles, ancient church and Saxon walls repay more exploration. Leaving Lydford northward, the Way follows an ancient track and then crosses pasture to the moorside village of Sourton.
From here, the Way embarks on a short length of moorland walking, the height giving superb long-range views to the edge of Bodmin Moor in Cornwall.
The final stretch into Okehampton crosses the town's medieval deer park and passes its castle, and there are diversions possible to see a spectacular Victorian railway viaduct.
