Hidden in a wooded valley on the edge of Exmoor, the Arlington estate houses numerous extraordinary collections. The house is crowded with the treasures of the Chichester family, including a unique collection of model ships and an amazing assortment of shells. Rare and impressive 18th-century Beauvais Tapestries are displayed alongside the family's personal possessions.

The 12 hectares (30 acres) of grounds include the formal Victorian garden and a walled kitchen garden, which produces fruit, vegetables and flowers for the house and tea-room. The 1,125 hectare (2,700-acre) estate is noted for its lichens and wildlife, and includes a heronry.

A large colony of lesser horseshoe bats can be viewed live, roosting in the roof of the house, via the 'bat-cam' (May—Aug). The Stable Block contains the Trust's internationally important collection of over 50 horse-drawn carriages, from the grand State Coach to the practical Hansom Cab. Visitors can experience a horse-drawn carriage ride around the beautiful grounds.

In the house touch the iron work on the stairs and gallery, the stonework on the fireplaces and put your fingers in the dragons mouth. Shells were amongst the items collected by Miss Chichester and we have a special box you can handle. If you can play the piano then the piano in the hall can be played and everyone can hug 'Russ' the teddy bear.

In the garden Memory's memorial and iron herons. At the Carriage Collection some of the vehicles can be handled, please ask stewards on duty. Our horses are always delighted with any attention they get. If they are too big there is always Dandy to harness. An audio tour of the house is also available.
