Cultural Devon / Cullompton
Cullompton is a quiet country town in the alley of the River Culm. Built on the prosperity of the woollen cloth trade, it suffered a disastrous fire in 1838 which destroyed no less than 264 houses! Fortunately, some fine Georgian buildings remain in the town centre.
The beautiful Church of St Andrew has been described as one of the most magnificent parish churches in Devon. A Farmers Market is held on the 2nd Saturday of the month. A church trail exploring many of the outstanding churches in the area, as well as a local town trail, are available, enabling you to discover the hidden historic and architectural gems of the town and offering a fascinating insight into their history.
Famed for its magnificent 15th century church with its rare wooden Golgotha of medieval origin, Cullompton is strategically positioned directly alongside the M5 at Junction 28.
Still a quiet country town, it is a key access point for drivers and walkers to some of Devonshire’s prettiest villages in the Culm Valley and the Blackdown Hills.
The town is home to an award-winning farmers market, which will give visitors an authentic taste of the area’s produce.
Located just off Juntion 28 of the M5.
