Wander the art trail in Devon

Visitors to Devon are being urged to unwind and enjoy the county’s stunning landscapes and flourishing art scene by wandering along nine art trails in some of the most scenic parts of the region.

Plans for this year’s Open Studios event are well underway and over 300 artists have signed up to take part. A series of nine Art Trails, each with its own map will run across the county between September 6 – 21 with trails in North Devon, Torridge, West Devon and South Hams running from September 6 – 14 and those in Mid Devon, Exeter, East Devon, Torbay and Teignbridge running from September 13- 21.

It offers a leisurely but stimulating day out; a chance to explore some of Devon’s hidden byways, meet local artists, discuss their work, how the lanscape inspires them and sometimes see short demonstrations. In addition to the artists, the trails will also feature local food outlets and producers enabling visitors to plan their routes and enjoy high quality local food as part of their Open Studios day out.

The trail maps will be available from mid July in Tourist Information Centres, libraries, galleries, arts venues, shops, cafes, pubs and accommodation providers. If you know which part of the county/particular towns or villages you would like to visit, let us know.

Participating artists range from renowned sculptor Peter Randall Page whose work is exhibited in the Tate and at the Eden project,to local groups of artists exhibiting for the first time.
Full details of all the participating artists and venues will be available on Devon Open Studios trail maps which will be distributed to libraries, tourist offices, hotels and galleries in mid July. Information and links to web pages will be updated as soon as possible .
