The Bicton Lectures: Summer Series 2008 - The Wildlife and Environment of East Devon

7.30 - 9.00 pm at Darts Farm, Topsham

Thursday 28th August: DORMICE & OTTERS - From Alice’s Wonderland to Tarka’s Travels - separating fact from fiction in conserving rare British mammals.

Paul Chanin is a well-known mammal ecologist and independent consultant with a particular interest in otters. He will talk about the relationship between the British public and charismatic wildlife. Paul will discuss wildlife ecologists’ concerns that money raised for conservation is spent wisely and explain how conservationists’ understanding of the needs of otters and dormice has changed over recent decades.

Individual lectures cost £10 each including refreshments, 10% discount if you book 3 or more lectures per person.

Buses
Stagecoach service 157 Exmouth – Budleigh Salterton – Bicton College – Sidmouth, drops you at the end of the drive where you get to enjoy a short 5 minute walk up the monkey puzzle drive. This services runs on the hour throughout the day.

Stagecoach service 57C from Exeter – Exmouth – Budleigh Salterton – Bicton College, comes up the drive and stops outside Bicton’s Learning Resource Centre. This service operates in the morning and late afternoon only, to coincide with the start and end of the College day.

The main train station is Exeter, whilst the nearest train station is Exmouth. You can catch a connecting bus (157 or 57C service) from either Exeter or Exmouth to Bicton College.
