Foodie Devon / Eating Out / Cafes and Tea Rooms / Café Alf Resco
Starting with freshly squeezed orange juiced which is squeezed on the premises, then the great British breakfast or smoked salmon and scrambled eggs, served with fresh bread which is made in Dartmouth.
We try and souce as much local produce as possible. We also stock a large range of organic drinks. We serve wonderful local Westcountry steak for lunch or handpicked local salad, and homemade tart.
Known to many as Alf's, this buzzing cafe with its open-plan kitchen and outdoor seating is especially popular with Dartmouth's local and visiting sailing and rowing fraternity, who quite rightly see it as the town's best breakfast spot. In fact, we were voted one of the top 50 Cafes in the Country by The Independent.
Coffee, made on a vintage Gaggia lever machine, is taken very seriously, and made with a unique house blend that is roasted locally. The bread and pastries are also produced in Dartmouth. Colouring books help keep the kids happy while on weekends jazz, blues and flamenco soothe the parents
This is what Time Out 2004 Eating and Drinking Guide says about us.
Known far and wide for its permanent buzz, Dartmouth's Alf Resco is a breakfasters' paradise a stone's throw from the waterfront. The varied clientele - from yachtie types in deck shoes to surf dudes with appropriate clothing labels and bleary-eyed parents - gives it a really good-natured feel. Staff are on hand to dish up a typical breakfast menu; try a full English or a bacon sandwich done to a T. While Alf's usually opens from 7am until 2pm, there are special evening suppers during the summer seven nights a week, which continue the party feel. The cappuccinos are notable too - even nicer on the terrace outside.
Arrive early to aviod disappointment during busy times.
