Foodie Devon > Eating Out > The Courtyard
This small out-of-the-way establishment specialises in precision cookery, using fresh locally sourced produce including organic Ruby Red and Aberdeen Angus beef, seasonal vegetables from local farms and Devon wines. In 2005 The Courtyard launched the North Devon Good Food campaign.
The Courtyard Restaurant opened in March 2004, and was one of the first restaurants in North Devon to specialise in the use of locally sourced produce. Having worked in Michelin starred establishments in the South West, and then in both London and Mexico City, Noel Corston (chef at the courtyard) is aiming to utilise all of the produce in the region to represent north Devon on a plate.
"The hills on Exmoor, our lowland woods as well as the wild crashing Atlantic are all right on our doorstep, and to ignore north Devon's country would be a huge sin. Respect for nature preceeds respect for ingredients, and both are essential components for the honest and hardworking chef".
Nora, Noel's wife, controls the restaurant's service, and her unintrusive presence, yet commited and informative approach, ensures a relaxing time for all customers.
