Foodie Devon > Devon's Local Produce > Markstone Farm
Markstone Farm is a small livestock farm, located just outside Modbury, nestled in the beautiful south hams area of South Devon. We are 8 miles from Dartmoor National Park and 5 miles from the sea at Bigbury. A wonderful spot for us and for our livestock!
We are a team of three, Andrew and Cathy Tall, and Lucy, our very reliable Border Collie who stands for no nonsense from our Ewe's or the Heifer's.
We are FABBL registered (number 34335 BL), which means we grow our meat to the red tractor standard. For consumers this means you can be assured that we have not only looked after the livestock properly (with respect, kindness, and compassion) but also that we have full traceability on the feed they have been given.
We use a local family run abattior just 20 minutes from the farm, where we know and trust the staff. The lamb carcasses are hung for a minimum of one week and the beef carcasses are hung for at least two weeks to allow the full flavour to develop and mature (as meat always used to be!). The carcass is then traditionally butchered and each joint individually packaged and labelled.
