Accessible Accommodation in Devon

The National Accessible Scheme for self-catering, parks and serviced accommodation includes standards for hearing and visually impaired guests as well as standards for guests with mobility impairment.

Devon accommodation that displays one or more of the eight signs shown below is committed to ensuring easy accessibility. When you see one of the symbols, you can be sure that the accommodation has been thoroughly assessed against demanding criteria.

VisitBritain has a variety of accessible accommodation in its schemes, and the different accessible ratings will help you choose the one that best suits your needs.

Mobility

M1 logoLevel 1 (M1) Typically suitable for a person with sufficient mobility to climb a flight of steps but would benefit from fixtures and fittings to aid balance.

M2 logoLevel 2 (M2) Typically suitable for a person with restricted walking ability and for those that may need to use a wheelchair some of the time and can negotiate a maximum of three steps

M3-I LogoLevel 3 (M3-I) Independent - Typically suitable for a person who depends on the use of a wheelchair and transfers unaided to and from the wheelchair in a seated position. This person may be an independent traveller.

M3-A logoLevel 3 (M3-A) Assisted - Typically suitable for a person who depends on the use of a wheelchair in a seated position. This person also requires personal/mechanical assistance (e.g. carer, hoist)

Access Exceptional LogoAccess Exceptional LogoAccess Exceptional - Attained by providing for all levels of mobility impairment listed above with reference to the British Standards BS 8300:2001. This is awarded to establishments that fulfil all the requirements of M1, M2, M3 (A or I) and some additional Best Practice criteria.

Hearing Impairment

H1 logoLevel 1 (H1) - Minimum entry requirements to meet the National Accessible Standards for guests with hearing impairment, from mild hearing loss to profoundly deaf.

H2 LogoLevel 2 (H2) - Recommended (Best Practice) additional requirements to meet the National Accessible Standards for guests with hearing impairment, from mild hearing loss to profoundly deaf.

Visual Impairment

V1 logoLevel 1 (V1) - Minimum entry requirement to meet the National Accessible Standards for visually impaired guests.

V2 logoLevel 2 (V2) - Recommended (Best Practice) additional requirements to meet the National Accessible Standards for visually impaired guests.
