Home / Devon Accommodation / Dittiscombe Holiday Cottages
Come and relax in the tranquil valley of Dittiscombe. Our traditional stone cottages nestle amongst rolling hills and look out over countryside, ponds and woodland to provide a truly peaceful setting for a holiday at any time of the year. We are close to the unspoilt beaches of Start Bay, the historic village of Slapton, and the South West Coast path.
Our six traditional stone-built cottages are individual in character, with comfortable accommodation and all dogs welcome, each with a private garden and views. The Owlery sleeps 2 and includes a wood burner, waterbed and air bath. Honeysuckle sleeps 2 also with a wood burner and air bath. Rafters sleeps 4 and is open plan with a south-facing garden. Buddleia and Dovecote both sleep 4 and include wood burners. Willows sleeps 6 with a south-facing garden. Other facilities include a nature trail with ponds and a children’s play area. Pets are welcome by pre-arrangement.
There are many attractions and coast and country activities close-by. We are within 30 minutes’ drive of several coastal, and moorland golf courses and we offer our guests a 25% discount off golf and leisure facilities at Dartmouth Golf & Country Club, just 10 minutes away by car.
There is a wonderful variety of walking, both coastal and inland. From your cottage door at Dittiscombe you can take our local green lane walk to the beautiful beaches of Start Bay, the historic village of Slapton, and the national nature reserves of Slapton Ley.
The valley of Dittiscombe, once farmed and now a haven for wildlife, is a diverse landscape and is home to many migrant and resident birds, and a host of mammals including badgers, foxes, stoats and brown hares. There is a family of resident little owls, and during the summer the owls hunt and breed within the valley. Take a leisurely stroll around our nature walk and discover for yourself the varied plants and animals that live here.
Both Salcombe and Dartmouth are within easy reach, and offer estuary cruises or boat hire. Kingsbridge and Totnes, both good shopping centres are about 6-8 miles away.
Several National Trust houses and gardens such as Colyton Fishacre, Greenways, Overbecks and Saltram all lie within easy reach of us.
In January 2005 Dittiscombe Holiday Cottages achieved a gold award within the Green Tourism Business Scheme. The award was given for very good environmental practices which include excellent recycling measures, the planting of native trees, reinstating an orchard, nature conservation, and providing a nature trail and wildlife pack for guests. We are continuing to monitor and improve our environmental practices.
