Inspirational summer opportunities.
Follow your passion and develop your knowledge and learn new skills this summer on a week long summer school based in the tranquil and inspiring grounds of Bicton College. For 5 days from 7th–11th July, we have something for everyone - practical courses in floristry, art and design, plant propagation and the flora of Devon’s most notable gardens.
* 7th–11th July Floristry Summer School at Bicton College
Submerge yourself in beautiful flowers and indulge in creativity dedicated to enjoying floristry and floral design through demonstrations, creating your own floral masterpieces and lots of helpful top tips from our Master Florist (Netherlands) - one of just a handful in the country. *7th–11th July Art and Design Summer School at Bicton College
Develop your skills as you recreate the different textures and properties in various natural materials (flowers, foliage, bark, stone), using contemporary, water-based (mixed) and encaustic (wax) media. Explore the technique of fabulous nuno feltmaking onto fine silk chiffon. Cost: £275 to include materials and lunches at Bicton College. Contact Nick Nicholls on 01395 562347
*7th–11th July Successful Propagation Summer School at Bicton College
Learn the techniques of seed sowing, taking cuttings, grafting and scaling; these practical sessions will teach you how to create new plants for free. Go behind the scenes at a professional nursery and learn the tricks of the trade. Cost: £450 – to include materials, lunches at Bicton College and transport for visit. *7th–11th July Devon Gardens Summer School at Bicton College
Visit some of the best gardens in Devon in the company of Ben Murrell, a knowledgeable Kew-trained horticulturalist. Designed to improve and develop your skills as a plantsman, each day will be an intensive tour to include Bicton Park, Exeter University, Killerton, Dartington, Coleton Fishacre, The Garden House, Wildside, Rosemoor, Marwood Hill, Hestercombe and Knightshayes. *The Bicton Lectures – Summer Series July/August 2008
Following the successful Winter Lectures, the Summer Series will focus on environmental topics, to include marine and estuarine ecology, wildflowers, dragonflies and butterflies on Thursday evenings 31st July 2008 – 28th August from 7.30 – 9.00pm; concluding with the Global Gardeners Touring Exhibition, featuring a talk and guided walk by Veitch specialist Caradoc Doy, at 2.30pm on Sunday 7th September. Cost: £10 per lecture (with reductions for multiple bookings).

From the M5 take junction 30 signposted Exmouth, Sidmouth, Bicton Park. At the first roundabout take the road signed Sidmouth/Bicton Park and stay on this road until you reach the village of Newton Poppleford. At the mini roundabout take the right hand turn to Budleigh Salterton and Bicton Park. After 2 miles, Bicton College will be found on the right hand side, just before Bicton Park. Proceed under the arch gatehouse and up the monkey puzzle avenue.
There is ample car parking here at Bicton, and it’s free!
Buses
Stagecoach service 157 Exmouth – Budleigh Salterton – Bicton College – Sidmouth, drops you at the end of the drive where you get to enjoy a short 5 minute walk up the monkey puzzle drive. This services runs on the hour throughout the day.
Stagecoach service 57C from Exeter – Exmouth – Budleigh Salterton – Bicton College, comes up the drive and stops outside Bicton’s Learning Resource Centre. This service operates in the morning and late afternoon only, to coincide with the start and end of the College day.

The main train station is Exeter, whilst the nearest train station is Exmouth. You can catch a connecting bus (157 or 57C service) from either Exeter or Exmouth to Bicton College.
