The Shaldon Festival of classical music began in 1990 and this year's events look as enticing as ever:
THE TEN TORS ORCHESTRA - Thursday 19th June 2008 - 7:30pm

The premier professional chamber orchestra in Devon and Cornwall, the 28 strong Ten Tors Orchestra will be playing a varied and exciting programme to open our 2008 Festival.
Handel - Water Music Suite No.2;
Mozart - Horn Concerto No.4;
Karen Wimhurst – new work for strings;
Walton - two string pieces from Henry V;
Ireland - Dance & Elegy from The Downland Suite;
Mozart - Symphony No.41 ‘Jupiter’

GUY JOHNSTON (cello) with KATHRYN STOTT (piano) - Friday 20th June 2008 - 7.30pm
BBC Young Musician of the Year in 2000, Guy Johnston has become a fast rising star on the international concert stage after making an extraordinary debut in London at the 2001 BBC Proms where he played the Elgar Cello Concerto with the BBC Symphony Orchestra under Leonard Slatkin.
He is joined by the international concert pianist Kathryn Stott, one of Britain’s most imaginative and versatile musicians.
It is a privilege to welcome these two outstanding players to Shaldon to give our Friday evening recital. Their virtuoso playing will be shown to its full in the delightful programme they have selected:

SIR NEVILLE MARRINER - Saturday 21st June 2008
Choral Workshop 12pm - Informal Performance 7.30pm
For the 2008 Festival Choral Workshop we are delighted to welcome back the world renowned conductor, Sir Neville Marriner, founder of the Academy of St Martin in the Fields. The two selected choral works are Fauré, Requiem and Stanford, Songs of the Sea providing a local flavour, including Drake’s Drum and Devon, O Devon.
Sponsored for the day by the Countess of Munster Musical Trust, the baritone soloist will be Benedict Nelson, an exciting young talent, who gained second prize in the 2007 Kathleen Ferrier Awards and runner up in the Guildhall Gold Medal 2007. Joining him will be another very gifted young singer with Devon connections, the soprano Héloïse West.

FAURÉ QUARTET - Sunday 22nd June 2008 - 7.30pm
Formed in 1995 at the Karlsruhe Conservatory of Music, the Fauré Piano Quartet has rapidly developed from a successful up-and-coming ensemble into an exceptional piano quartet, attracting superlatives wherever they go.
Winners of the 2003 Parkhouse Award, presented biennially to piano and string ensembles in memory of David Parkhouse, we are thrilled that the Fauré Quartet has accepted our invitation to return to Shaldon for the closing concert of the 2008 Festival.
