The Bicton Lectures: Summer Series 2008 - The Wildlife and Environment of East Devon

Thursday 24th July: LANDSCAPE MANAGEMENT FOR WILDLIFE - Working with landowners to protect threatened species

Matt Boydell works for Devon Wildlife Trust as a Land Management Manager and is responsible for the DWT reserves in East Devon. He has a habitat/species management background, having worked with the National Trust for many years in Devon and Cornwall. He will explain DWT’s work with local landowners to develop habitats for wildlife using a landscape-scale approach, with reference to particular studies on the Culm grassland reserves, and covering local species such as the Pearl-bordered Fritillary and Dartford Warbler (both symbols of the Rural Academy).

Individual lectures cost £10 each including refreshments, 10% discount if you book 3 or more lectures per person.

Stagecoach service 157 Exmouth – Budleigh Salterton – Bicton College – Sidmouth, drops you at the end of the drive where you get to enjoy a short 5 minute walk up the monkey puzzle drive. This services runs on the hour throughout the day.

Stagecoach service 57C from Exeter – Exmouth – Budleigh Salterton – Bicton College, comes up the drive and stops outside Bicton’s Learning Resource Centre. This service operates in the morning and late afternoon only, to coincide with the start and end of the College day.

The main train station is Exeter, whilst the nearest train station is Exmouth. You can catch a connecting bus (157 or 57C service) from either Exeter or Exmouth to Bicton College.
