Historic thatched 9th century country inn. Located in the beautiful Blackdown Hills. Home cooked food, real ales, fine wines. Real log fire set inside a charming and welcoming pub. Easy to reach on the A30 between Honiton and Chard.
Yarcombe Inn is the quintessential Devon thatched Inn. Situated in the heart of Yarcombe, winner of Devon village of the year 2005. Yarcombe is a pretty village nestling in the spectacular Yarty Valley with its steep rolling meadows and ancient woods on the south edge of the Blackdown Hills.
The Inn is steeped in history. Originally a 9th century monastery and was a church house in King Harold's time. The pub is mentioned in the Domesday Book and was once owned by Sir Francis Drake as part of his estate. For many years the Inn served as a coaching house for travellers. Admiral Nelson on route back to Portsmouth from Honiton is believed to have stayed at the Inn.
The bar and dining areas have a most welcoming traditional feel, which combined with good food, real ales, fine wines and hospitality, enables you to have a most enjoyable time. The calming ambience of the inn makes it an ideal place for a light informal lunch or a more extravagant dinner.
