Home / Things To Do in Devon / Outdoor Activities in Devon / Walking / Long Distance Trails / Templer Way / Bovey Tracey - Newton Abbot
Distance: 6 miles
Difficulty: Easy
End points:
- Pottery Pond (Grid Ref SX813771)
- Newton Abbot (Grid Ref SX863718)
This is an almost completely level walk, largely on the floor of the valley of the River Teign. Leaving the edge of Bovey Tracey the route soon enters the wooded area of Great Plantation.
Eventually emerging from here, more woodland is then reached at Stover Country Park. After passing the ornamental lake, there are two alternative routes to take, one closely following the banks of the River Teign, the other tracing a more cross-country pattern [or both arms may be used to form a circuit].
The two options meet at Teigngrace, after which the line of the old Stover Canal is followed into Newton Abbot, the route passing now derelict but historic locks on the way.
Mileage between towns on route:
Pottery Pond [Bovey Tracey]-Stover Country park: 2.5 miles
Stover Country Park-Teigngrace: 2 miles.
Teigngrace-Newton Abbot: 1.5 miles
Public Transport: Buses at Bovey Tracey, Stover Country Park, Newton Abbot; trains at Newton Abbot.
