Here at Paignton Zoo Environmental Park, our animals live in their own habitat zones. The Zoo is divided up into six zones, 'Primley', savannah, forest, wetland, tropical forest and desert. All of these represent world habitats, except for Primley which is an area in the Zoo where animals from a mixture of habitats live. Paignton Zoo is committed to the conservation of plants and animals throughout the world. We are involved with field conservation projects in the UK and overseas, breeding programmes for native and exotic animals and research within the Zoo. Come and visit this great all weather family attraction, for kids and adults of all ages. See all animals in happy, natural environments. Animals include Lions, Tigers, Giraffes, Elephants, A wide range of Parrots, Cheetahs, Baboons, Bisons, Ducks, Emus, Giant Tortoises, Owls, Lemurs, Mandrills, Black Rhinos and if that isn't enough check out the Ape centre. There are many events going on throughout the day in the Zoo. You can listen to talks or watch the feeding. Railway: The miniature railway enables visitors to encircle the lake and obtain a different view of some of the animals. On the journey you are taken past gorillas, tigers, lions, flamingos, gibbons and the birds of Brook Side Aviary. This railway was added to the Zoo in 1940 when Reginald Goddard, from Chessington Zoo, joined the Zoo for a brief period during the war. This has proved very successful and runs every day from Easter to October. There is a small fee for this service. Face Painting: Face painting takes place within the Zoo from Easter until October. You will find the face painting in the middle of the Zoo near the Education Centre. There is a charge for this. Outdoor Play Areas: Located around the Zoo are various FREE outdoor play areas. Children can play on the swings, slides, tunnels, ropes and climbing frames whilst the adults can have a rest and take in the beautiful landscape, gardens and animals at Paignton Zoo. Education: Situated at the heart of the Zoo and staffed by experienced, professional zoo educators, our Education Centre caters for learners of all ages and abilities: under 5's, primary, secondary, post 16's and community. The Zoo is a stimulating learning resource for science, literacy, numeracy, geography and art as well as many important skills. Our talks, activities and most of our worksheets are linked to National Curriculum objectives. Opening Times: We now Shut at 1630 (1700 on fine days). Paignton Zoo is open all year round (except Christmas Day). Doors open to the Zoo at 10 am every day but doors close at varying times according to the season and light.
