Home / Things To Do in Devon / Northam Burrows Country Park
Lying at the entrance to the Taw-Torridge Estuary, Northam Burrows supports a range of coastal habitats. These include saltmarsh, a cobble ridge and a system of sand dunes that is rich in plants including lady’s bedstraw and wild thyme. Wet grassland and dune slacks are also present, and are home to such species as yellow iris and the rare water germander. Thickets of hawthorn and bramble further enhance the diversity of the park.
Northam Burrows provides a home for many birds. Amongst others, golden plovers and brent geese overwinter here, and wheatears and grasshopper warblers breed on site.
