A network of hidden paths festoned with exotic plants. Around the the time of the construction of Princes Pier, Gardens and the widening of Torbay Road, a raised walk was laid out which ran along the foot of the towering cliff. This became known as Royal Terrace Gardens and is also refered to locally, as Rock Walk. Originally the gardens which were opened by the town Mayor in August 1893, were festooned with many sub-tropical plants, inclucing a variety of bamboo. Today, Palms,Yukka and other exotics continue to line the network of paths, along with a wide variety of shrubs and trees. By day you will witness splendid views accross Princess Gardens, the harbour and Torbay. By night, well placed illuminations combine with the vegetation to create a romantic environment for an evening stroll. Admission is free, there is limited disabled access. The gardens are accessible by public transport.
The Royal Terrace Gardens(Rock Walk) are situated on Torquay Seafron, opposite Princess gardens.
