What's Nearby? - FREE OPPORTUNITY

Are you an accommodation provider who would like to let your customers know what attractions, activities, food and drink and event opportunities are available in your area?

Or maybe an attraction, activity provider or eating out establishment that would like to make your customers aware of what accommodation is in the area?

If so, we can now offer a FREE and EASY way to do this!

If your business appears on Discover Devon, your page will have a box called "What's Nearby?" which allows a visitor to see what else is nearby your establishment - from within 0.5, 2, 5 or 10 miles. Please find below instructions on how you can make the most of this great piece of functionality for your website:

Instructions

Look up your record on Discover Devon and locate the What's Nearby box on the page - below I use the example of the George Hotel in Braunton, (click on the image for a close up):

What's Nearby

Perform a search for what you would like to inform your customers about - for example, Attractions within 10 miles. You should then get your search results - please see example below (click on picture to see the actual list):

What's Nearby search results

Once you have your search result list, take the URL for the results (which will usually contain a lot of text) - e.g:

http://www.discoverdevon.com/site/where-to-stay/george-hotel-p402863/searchresults?refine-producttype=on&src_producttype=ATTR&refine-whatsnearbyproximity=on&src_proximity_dist=+10
&src_proximity=402863&productName=George+Hotel&posted=1&refined=1&x=105&y=19

See below for where to find this text (click on the picture to zoom in)

URL whats nearby

All you then need to do is copy this text and place it on your website. You can do this by:

1. Hiding the link behind some nice introductory text. For example,

Please use the following link to find out more about some great attractions within 10 miles of us

2. Or having the link visible on the screen with an introduction to what it is. e.g

Please click on the following link to look for some great attractions within 10 miles of us:

http://www.discoverdevon.com/site/accommodation/george-hotel-p402863/searchresults?refine-producttype=on&src_producttype=ATTR&refine-whatsnearbyproximity=on&src_proximity_dist=+10&src_
proximity=402863&productName=George+Hotel&posted=1&
refined=1&x=105&y=19

And that should be it! Have a go, but please feel free to contact us if you experience any problems via the Discover Devon email address at discoverdevon@devon.gov.uk.
