North Devon and Exmoor

Decide on North Devon for your holiday and you'll be spoilt for choice. From the miles of fabulous golden beaches to the wild moorlands of Exmoor, from tiny villages tucked away in hidden valleys to bustling seaside towns, North Devon has it all.

You can follow deep winding lanes through North Devon's beautiful rolling countryside to discover bustling market towns and tranquil villages with picturesque thatched cottages. You could visit Holsworthy and Hatherleigh, delightful bases for the greenest of green holidays - cycling, rambling, horse riding and fishing, or South Molton, once famed for its sheep fairs and now a thriving centre of the arts and antique trades.

Exmoor has its own powerful atmosphere, with a history going back millions of years. Its combination of rugged coastline with dramatic cliffs, ancient woodland and expanses of open moorland roamed by wild ponies and deer proves an enduring attraction. It is home to many rare and important species of plants, birds and animals, a treat for all nature lovers.

If your taste is for the sea, North Devon has some of the finest sandy beaches in the British Isles. Woolacombe, a blue-flag beach, was recently voted one of the world's top ten. Just around the headland, Croyde, a Seaside Award beach, is famous for surfing, while Saunton's sands stretch as far as the eye can see.

The pretty harbours at Clovelly, Ilfracombe and Lynmouth make a delightful contrast to the spectacular coastline, notably the Hartland peninsula where the coastal path follows dramatic cliffs and tiny coves.

North Devon offers an exciting choice of attractions too. Take a trip on the Tarka line, visit the Exmoor zoo, a dinosaur park or gnome reserve, walk round beautiful gardens or enjoy the peace of nature reserves -- there is something here for every interest.

North Devon's rich diversity of landscape and attractions make it a guaranteed favourite with visitors - families, couples or singles - for a holiday or short break at all times of year.
