Grading Information for Discover Devon

Our policy on Discover Devon is to accept only accommodation in Devon which has been inspected - either by a national or a local assessment scheme. Details of these schemes appear below.

Please note: we cannot guarantee that all agencies' properties will be graded, so we advise you to check the quality and service of a particular property with the agency direct before you book.

National Quality Assessment Schemes

Visit Britain/Enjoy England and the AA grade establishments offering accommodation under a set of common quality standards agreed by the AA and the UK tourist authorities: VisitBritain, VisitScotland and Wales Tourist Board. The aim is to make accommodation standards easy to understand and to give you confidence that establishments meet the standard you expect. So, you can make your booking, relax and know you will enjoy a wonderful break.

These descriptions apply to all types of accommodation and to both stars and diamonds. Use them as a general guide to what you can expect.

1 star or diamond: Simple, practical, no frills.
2 star or diamond: Well presented and well run.
3 star or diamond: Good level of quality and comfort.
4 star or diamond: Excellent standard throughout.
5 star or diamond: Exceptional with a degree of luxury.

Note: Diamonds only apply to Guest Accommodation and are gradually being replaced by stars during 2007.

Local Inspection Schemes

Many local inspection schemes also operate in Devon. All locally inspected accommodation will at least match the standard of the National Scheme One Star; it might well be higher. Each property is assessed for individuality, charm and overall ambience. Look out for the Quality Assured logo when searching for accommodation on this website.
